IP/NEMA

KEMA tests the dust and watertightness of your products

A continually increasing range of product standards include a requirement for a certain degree of dust and watertightness of equipment and equipment housings. In addition, these requirements are also imposed by a continually increasing number of customers (retailers and importers). Since you wish to supply quality you will also wish your products to comply with the standards for dust and watertightness. The international standards are laid down in the IP classification, whilst the NEMA TYPE classification is applicable to the North American market. However, where can you have your equipment tested? And what about large equipment?

KEMA can test all your equipment for compliance with the dust and watertightness requirements laid down in the IP and NEMA classifications. Some time ago KEMA commissioned a giant dust chamber that can be used to test even the largest equipment. This dust chamber has dimensions of no less than 2.70 m x 2.70 m x 2.70 m! The test facility’s advanced technology enables us to circulate dust throughout the chamber – and, as required, we can also create an under or overpressure in the test object. In addition, our special water chamber enables us to test the watertightness of your equipment. This water chamber is used to expose your equipment to various degrees of moisture, ranging from a gentle spray right through to a jet of water from a fire-hose. At the end of the tests we inspect the equipment or housing to determine whether or not dust or water has penetrated into the interior. Products that pass the tests are awarded an approval.

We make every endeavour to minimize the duration of our certification programmes. Moreover our organization is designed for flexibility, and we tailor our work as closely as possible to your development and production processes. However, it will be self-evident that this flexibility is not to the detriment of our accuracy, objectivity, or autonomy.
