Adherence to industry standards has always been
important to a organisation’s ability to maintain an open and
interoperable process control environment. Without these standards,
it is almost impossible to choose multiple suppliers within one IT
infrastructure. Electricity Network Operators for example connect
their IT systems in Controls Centres (SCADA) with IT systems in
other Control Centres or substations using standard communication
protocols.
And in today’s evolving international wholesale markets, the
unbundling of services adds a new layer of complexity to industry
communication protocol standards, requiring more robust
functionality and the ability to exchange a tremendous volume of
transactions flowing between numerous market
participants.
Timeliness, accuracy and security of the information being
exchanged has
never been more critical to the effective operation of our power
infrastructure, and the costs that could be incurred by not having
proper and consistent protocols have never been higher.
KEMA is a world-leading expert in data communication standards and
is relied upon by hundreds of companies to test and certify
communication architectures and interfaces as means to achieve
structural cost reduction, risk management and increased
flexibility.
As an unbiased and reliable "third party" testing organization,
KEMA issues Certificates accepted throughout the world as proof
that a duly identified product design complies with the
requirements of a specific standard.
KEMA's products and services
Interface testing and certification
We test the communication interfaces of IT systems that should
comply with national or international standards. For technical data
and market data (EDI) exchange. We create test plans, we perform
conformance, interoperability and performance tests and we issue
formal certificates.
Test software
We provide test systems (software) in order to trace communication
problems (protocol analysers) and to simulate protocol functions
and message transactions (simulators) for all protocols that are
based on standards defined by international organisations such as
IEC and
UN/CEFACT.
International Protocols and Detailed KEMA
Services
KEMA is actively working on projects related to current digital
communications architecture issues facing the energy industry and
for EDI message exchange also other industries. Some of the
international standards we are working with include:
· IEC 60870-5: Tele-control in Low-Speed
Networks
· IEC 60876-6 (TASE.2): Data Communications
Protocol
· IEC 61850: Substation Automation
· IEC 61334: Devise Language Message Specification
(DLMS)
· ELCOM-90: Communication Between Control
Centres
· EDI Standards: Electronic Data Interchange
Protocol Training
KEMA has already given numerous protocol-training courses to both
vendors and users of IT systems. KEMA would like to invite you to
attend our protocol trainings. The available trainings are:
