Certification gaming instruments to NMi

Press release, may 12 2006

Necessary growth in international gaming industry biggest motive for overtake

Netherlands Measurement (NMi) and KEMA both have been active on the gaming market since manyyears. This market internationalises in a high pace because more and more countries open-up their borders for private test institutes. To keep playing a role of importance and to grow to a position in the top 3 of the world, a large contribution is necessary. Together the gaming activities of NMi and KEMA offer the right scale and possibilities to make such a step. NMi therefore takes over the certification of gaming instruments from KEMA, retroactive from 1 May 2006.

Number one-position
The gaming market is characterized by high dynamics with an increasing number of countries that open-up for commercial certification institutes. This development will continue the years to come, where counties outside of Europe are considered to be market as well. Both NMi and KEMA kept investing in gaining acceptance in new gaming countries over and over again. The two strongest players in the market are non-European. That is the exact reason why the European gaming industry likes to see at least one strong international player of European origin.
With the take-over the number one-position in Europe is a fact. The transition solely concerns the certification of the gaming instruments. A second laboratory will be continued in Arnhem. All employees involved (7) cross over to NMi.

Growth
The junction is no end goal but should be considered a new start. In the new situation there is a significant scale of approximately 15 employees with a total turnover of almost 2 Million euros. At this scale short-term expansions with own locations in the south of Europe becomes obvious. For the mid-term the focus will also be directed outside of Europe, in those areas where a free test market for gaming instruments will arise.

KEMA
KEMA is an advising agency for the energy market and is specialised in high-end technological consultancy and testing and certification. The company works with 1.400 employees from 20 countries worldwide. More information at www.kema.com or T +31 26 3 56 30 18, marjolein.roggen@kema.com
