Motor vehicle lighting: E-mark approval

Do you need the E-mark approval quickly?

Your motor vehicle lighting must meet the legal requirements. This is applicable to headlights, taillights, rear fog lights, back-up lights, brake lights, and directional signals as well as retroreflectors (reflex reflectors), rear marking plates with retroreflective and fluorescent materials for trucks and trailers, and of course the light sources. ECE Regulations and EC Directives are something you have to deal with in Europe. Does your product meet these requirements? If so, then you may carry the E-mark.

The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108 (FMVSS108) is applicable in the United States. KEMA’s Photometric Laboratory can test your motor vehicle lighting to the applicable standard.

KEMA’s Photometric Laboratory has a solid reputation and many years of experience with the approval testing of vehicle lighting. One very good reason why so many well-known trade names such as Hella, Visteon, Stanley, and Koito have chosen KEMA.

KEMA is accredited by the RDW (Dutch Road Transport Directorate) for the certification of motor vehicle lighting. If you meet the ECE Standard, which is applicable in Europe, you can demonstrate that with our internationally recognized certificate.

Additionally the full testing is performed on such devices according to the FMVSS108 (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108) necessary for the US market. In this case KEMA performs the testing and the final compliance report is issued by Calcoast-ITL in California (see www.calcoast-itl.com).

Moreover, traffic lights and variable matrix signals must meet the Dutch standards and requirements. EN Standards are applicable to traffic lights and the requirements of the Dutch Department of Waterways and Public Works apply to variable matrix signals.
The approval of traffic lights and variable matrix signals is a condition for suppliers that wish to enter the Dutch market.

The Department of Waterways and Public Works appointed KEMA’s Photometric Laboratory to conduct approval testing according to these EN Standards and Department of Waterways and Public Works requirements.

  • Choosing know-how and speed means choosing the KEMA Photometric Laboratory
  • KEMA has the expertise for approval testing of motor vehicle lighting and variable matrix signals
  • Our Photometric Laboratory has a very short lead time for approval testing
  • Depending on your requirements, KEMA tests to either the European or the American regulations

KEMA employs a flexible method of working and take your planning and processes into account as much as possible.
