KEMA Test Certificate

A full sequence of tests according to the EN/IEC 60439-1

A type test means that the product is subjected to a complete sequence of tests, described in detail in a standard.
The standard for the “IEC world”  is the EN/IEC 60439-1. The prefix EN/IEC means that the requirements of both EN standards (issued by CENELEC) and IEC standards are harmonized and presented in one single document. Any type test can be performed by a market party or an independent and objective so called “third party”. It should be obvious that only properly accredited third parties have the objectivity required to issue test results that can be used for official purposes.
Often the cause of confusion: type test certificates do not include aspects of the quality system of either the original manufacturer or the assembly manufacturer. Nor do they include any factory inspection or product re-examination. A (panel-) type test certificate and a (panel-) certification scheme are different things. Or rather: when carried out correctly as per the procedure of the certification scheme in question, the type test forms the basis of the certification scheme.
A type test is a once only demonstration of a product’s compliance and the product subjected may be especially prepared for the occasion.
