KEMA co-presents ECF report ‘Power Perspectives 2030’ in Brussels

‘Power Perspectives 2030’ new landmark report after Roadmap 2050

On Monday, November 7, KEMA’s CEO Thijs Aarten will co-present the European Climate Foundation Report ‘Power Perspectives 2030’ in Brussels in the presence of various European politicians, policy makers, industry representatives and other stakeholders.

KEMA is one of the main contributors to this report − together with McKinsey, Imperial College London, RAP and E3G − which builds on the widely referenced report ‘Roadmap 2050: a practical guide to a prosperous low-carbon Europe’ from 2010.

One of the main conclusions of ‘Power Perspectives 2030’ is that “high-level of diverse renewables will deliver 2050 decarbonisation and economic benefits if backed by significant grid investment, demand side resources and flexible gas, but investments must start now”.

At the same time the report finds that Europe’s 2020 plans for decarbonised power in 2050 are on-track, provided that they are fully implemented: “ambitious Renewable Energy target for 2030 will be key.”

‘Roadmap 2050’ has had a big impact. It did not only draw broad attention from global media, but it had also the effect that the European Commission partially based its vision on the future of the European energy infrastructure on this report.

It is expected that ‘Power Perspectives 2030’ will provide valuable input as well to those who are working on a decarbonised power sector in Europe.
