KEMA assigned by Spanish Ministry of Industry to help develop framework for energy efficiency

Open software platform for energy efficiency monitoring in Spain

Sep. 12, 2011 – The Spanish Ministry of Industry has appointed an international consortium including KEMA to design, implement and test a framework capable of checking and validating energy efficiency monitoring. The ENERFICIENCY project will be funded by the Spanish Government research and development (R&D) program 'Plan Avanza 2'. The consortium is led by Indra, a leading Spanish IT company. The 4.4 million Euro project has to be finalized by November 2013.

With a focus on 'user led energy efficiency management', the ENERFICIENCY consortium will design, implement and test an open software platform for energy-efficiency monitoring and management from the customer side. The platform should be able to interact with the power network and provide services for efficient use of energy. The project aims to build a software platform capable of integrating many heterogeneous data sources and of providing appropriate services to convert this data into valuable information for energy-efficiency management, audit and benchmarking. KEMA will participate in the technical and business requirements; system integration, testing and validation; and dissemination, standardization and utilization.

ENERFICIENCY is a balanced consortium of 26 entities (four large industry representatives, sixteen small and medium enterprises, and six research/university institutions) from six countries: Belgium, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France and Spain. The participation of six different countries will provide an exceptional framework to establish common guidelines for standardization. At the same time, it will serve to detect regional and national requirements derived from regulation, climate and building particularities.

This is KEMA’s third R&D project with the Spanish Government in the last twelve months.
