Electric mobility project receives the green light
Together with the project partners of Saxon institutes, energy suppliers, and logistic firms, KEMA is leading a project in the area of electric mobility supported by the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building, and Urban Development. The promise for about 1.8 million Euro was received by the project partners at the opening of AMI - Automobil International in Leipzig from the Parliamentary State Secretary Jan Mücke (FDP).
Electric cars have gained broad political and societal support. With the national development plan for electric mobility adopted in Germany, a million electric cars should be driving on German streets and a network of electric charging stations should be built by 2020. Among other measures, the “Model Regions of Electric Mobility” project was created to fulfill the plan. Saxony is one of eight model regions for which the federal government has made a total of 115 million Euro available through 2011. Joint projects and mobility concepts will be developed and implemented among manufacturers, research facilities, service providers, and infrastructure operators, enabling Saxony to take a key role in the development of electric mobility in Germany.
New intelligent infrastructure
In the model region of Saxony, KEMA will be devoted to fleet operations with electric vehicles and with fleet management. In the context of this project, which is coordinated by KEMA, electric vehicles will be procured through the project partners and the first charging stations will be built in the Saxon cities of Dresden and Leipzig. The goals of the project are to develop a new intelligent infrastructure for the supply of electric energy for the automobile, the study of new market models for fleet operators, and the investigation of the entire system’s suitability for daily use. KEMA actively contributes to the development and introduction of the newest technologies and market models for the infrastructure for electric cars in Saxony.
