Update of general lighting standard EN 60598-1.
Product standards are continually changing.Updates appear regularly and older versions of current standards expire. This also applies for the general lighting standard EN 60598-1. As of1st April 2007, the fourth edition of this standard, which dates from 1997, expires. The validity of the fifth edition from 2000 also expires as of1 July 2007.
To be able to keep using your existing certificates, they must be based on the sixth edition of EN 60598-1. A lot of minor changes are included in the sixth edition with respect to the earlier editions. Among other things, there are differences concerning the construction requirements, including mechanical danger for the user, and there are also changes in the area of temperature measurements of lamp holders.
Although these are not major differences, the changes do give reason for evaluating your products again. In a number of cases, KEMA can settle for a paper certification. If necessary we will conduct some additional tests so that we can be sure that your products comply with the latest requirements. If the products comply with the sixth edition, the manufacturer will receive an updated certificate.
