Up to date on changes in ATEX standard.
In the coming years the harmonized ATEX 95 standards will change. To inform manufacturers on all aspects of the changing standards, KEMA introduced a special edition of its e-mail newsalert and organized a seminar.
The ATEX 95 directive requires a manufacturer of products for use in potentially explosive atmospheres to comply with the applicable requirements of the directive at the moment that the products are brought onto the market. Every product must therefore be accompanied by a EC declaration of conformity drafted by the manufacturer, to declare which requirements the product complies with - in many cases by referring to one or more of the harmonized standards under the ATEX 95.
Insight into the consequences
To inform manufacturers on all aspects of the changing standards, KEMA introduced a special edition of its e-mail newsalert. KEMA’s product expert Theo Pijpker: ‘The first issue of this newsalert has been sent out in June to our customers worldwide. It gives insight into the consequences that the changes can have for their products and provides an up-to-date overview of the standards that will change in the short and medium term. The next issue will be devoted to the standards that will change on a short term basis.
EN/IEC 60079-15
In relation to the first standard that changed, the EN/IEC 60079-15, KEMA organized a training in September. Issues like 'what is the exact content of this new standard?' and 'what does the new standard mean for my products?' were discussed. Pijpker: ’The participants were very positive. Many questions were answered and because of the small-scale set-up it was an interactive session with time to discuss compliance issues on an individual level.’
