Converting biomass and waste into electricity and heat, the co-firing of biomass at coal-fired power plants and recycling of material is good for the environment, helping to reduce net carbon dioxide emissions.

These processes are also economically attractive. Many national governments provide tax benefits and other incentives to encourage the practice. To maximize the efficiency, reliability and performance of these processes, new approaches and technologies are necessary.
