Cable systems

Commissioning tests, Diagnostic testing

|

|
|
High-voltage cables form important links in and between
substations. Power cables have very high electrical stresses due to
their compact design. The cable accessories, joints and
terminations need to be installed on site. Any imperfection may
lead to electrical breakdown. Power cable systems should be tested
at an elevated test voltage to determine any possible weak spots.
Partial discharge tests can be added to gain an even better
understanding of the behavior of the cables systems.

At KEMA we have special test facilities available for
commissioning tests of power cables. With this system we can test
cables up to 400 kV and up to a length of 10 km or more. This
equipment is installed on a special trailer and can easily be
transported.
