Maintenance strategy

Three of the most popular maintenance strategies include: Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM), Time-Based Maintenance (TBM) and Corrective Maintenance (CM).

The Condition-Based Maintenance strategy is usually selected in cases where not much is actually known about the condition of the cable circuit. Maintenance actions are based on the assumed condition of the circuit and the limited information available. In cases where degradation of the cable circuit can be reliably predicted, Time-Based Maintenance becomes more attractive since the costs of diagnostic testing can be avoided. Corrective Maintenance is normally selected for less critical circuits having low failure rates. The right choice also depends on your goal and focus. Typical goals include eliminating problem circuits, determining the risk of failure and reducing claims. Based on the strategy adopted, rules can be developed for selecting network components for diagnosis.
