Medium voltage circuit breakers are designed to energize or de-energize circuits under normal conditions and special conditions, such as during short-circuits or unloaded cables. The most common types of circuit breakers include nowadays:- Vacuum circuit breakers
- SF6 circuit breakers
IEC 62271-100 and ANSI C.37-09 are applicable standards for circuit breakers used in medium voltage (AC) networks. The test duties stated in these standards include the following operations:- Making and breaking of short-circuits
- Mechanical endurance
- Making and breaking of circuits with capacitive loads
The KEMA High-Power Laboratory allows realistic testing conditions for these above mentioned test duties. Furthermore, for obtaining a KEMA Type Test Certificate the following tests need to be performed by the KEMA High-voltage Laboratory:- Dielectric tests
- Temperature-rise test
