Impression of the developments surrounding the new KEMA High Voltage Laboratory
Mr. Cornielje laid the first foundation stone under the supervision of Mr. Verhoeven
On the 17th of December 2007 the first foundation stone was laid amid great public interest of local and provincial politicians.
The Royal Commissioner of this province Mr. Cornielje laid the first foundation stone with pride. This festive event attracted a lot of media. Finally the construction of the new KEMA High Voltage Laboratory can begin.
The new KEMA High Voltage Laboratory will have the dimensions of approximately a football field with its highest point reaching 18 meters. The height was determined according to the voltage levels needed for testing.
The laboratory consists of a large steel construction whose special design will function according to the principles of the Cage of Faraday. The hall is divided into three compartments with individual heights: for medium voltage, high voltage and ultra high voltage.
Because test equipment will not be anchored to one location within the hall, the possibility for testing becomes much more flexible. Throughout the design, consideration was taken regarding transit logistics so that clients receive a fast and optimal service. Thanks to the close proximity of the High Power Laboratory, clients can benefit from having both laboratories at just a stone's throw away and can therefore make use of each simultaneously.
Development of the construction
A few months later....
In the meantime the progress of the construction of the new KEMA High Voltage Laboratory is clearly evident. The skeleton already gives an idea of the dimensions of the lab. More than 400 tons of steel will be used for this construction. Day by day the building visibly grows. In November the construction will be completed so that the realisation of the interior can start.
