KEMA Expands Leading Green Building Practice for a Sustainable Future

Industry pioneers Chuck Angyal and Shayne Rolfe head up new San Diego office Green building consultant Andrea Ranger leads growth of East Coast team

BURLINGTON, Mass. (May 28, 2008) – Interest in and demand for green building solutions to control energy costs and achieve sustainability objectives is on the rise nationwide. Global energy and utility consulting firm KEMA continues to expand its green building practice to support growing demand for its services. Chuck Angyal, Shayne Rolfe and Andrea Ranger have joined KEMA’s national practice focusing on sustainable strategies and design practices. Mr. Angyal and Mr. Rolfe are based in the new San Diego location, and Ms. Ranger joins the firm’s existing team in Burlington, Massachusetts.

“Over the past decade we’ve seen an exponential increase in public and private client interest in integrating energy efficient designs and equipment, and sustainable practices and materials into their projects,” said Rich Barnes, president of KEMA Services, Inc. “Coast to coast, building owners and key tenants increasingly want to take concrete steps to increase the value of their properties, lower the cost of occupancy, and reduce the overall environmental impacts of new construction and renovation projects. As pioneers in bringing sustainable building design into the mainstream, Chuck and Shayne each bring over 27 years of experience to executing KEMA’s growth strategy and to providing green building solutions for our growing national client base. As an experienced green building consultant, Andrea furthers KEMA’s long-standing position as a leader in helping clients achieve their objectives through time- and cost-effective green building solutions.”

Mr. Angyal previously was chief architect with one of the largest energy utilities in California and devoted the past 15 years to educating, assisting and encouraging design teams and their clients to make environmentally sustainable choices in new construction projects. Mr. Angyal is also a founding board member of the U.S. Green Building Council and the Collaborative for High Performance Schools, and has been a guest and featured speaker at many industry conferences and events.

Mr. Rolfe has been actively engaged in the building and engineering consulting industry throughout his career, focusing on conceptual design and project delivery. He manages all aspects of projects from the initial stages of proposal preparation to project completion, including innovative design concepts, programming, management, and quality control. Mr. Rolfe has directed and mentored project teams for leading sustainable projects over the past seven years both in the US and Australian markets.

Prior to joining KEMA, Ms. Ranger ran her own LEED® consulting practice and worked in partnership with the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative to develop and refine a green schools benchmarking and incentive program for Massachusetts public schools. Her current focus is on assisting building project owners and design teams in becoming certified under LEED® or equivalent green building rating systems.

Since 1998, KEMA has been offering comprehensive green building consulting services, from recommending green building strategies to design assistance and construction oversight, for new construction, commercial interiors, core and shell, existing buildings, neighborhood development, and LEED® for Schools projects. As the LEED® certification process manager, KEMA recently helped secure a Platinum rating for the StopWaste.org green building renovation project. A key component of green building projects is the adoption and implementation of building benchmarking systems such as the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System.
