KEMA Promotes Electric Grid Reliability through Utility System Operation Solutions

BURLINGTON, Mass., (July 31, 2008) – KEMA’s Joseph Moran has been promoted to senior vice
president of the firm’s global power system operations and control practice. The practice has been
expanding globally in 2008 with a focus on creating and improving electric utility network control
organization, system operation procedures and practices as well as on supporting technologies critical to
the reliability and security of the power grid and on implementing grid modernization and utility of the
future initiatives.
“The emergence of large amounts of renewable generation, clean technologies, demand response, and
wind integration will present new challenges for our system operation clients,” said Hugo van Nispen,
president and managing director of KEMA, Inc. “Joe’s new position further enables our ability to use our
global resources and knowledge more effectively to address these needs.”
Moran joined KEMA in 1990, helping to build and expand a successful practice assisting over 40 utilities,
independent system operators (ISOs), and market participants worldwide. He has been involved in all
aspects of power operations and market operation system projects including strategic planning,
technology consolidation, business case development, system procurements, supplier evaluation,
contract negotiations, and project implementation and management. As senior VP, Moran will leverage
KEMA’s extensive global experience in distribution operations related to smart grids to address many new
challenges clients face in managing systems and control center operations. The practice includes a global
team of technical and strategic management experts on SCADA, energy management systems (EMS),
distribution management systems (DMS), market operations systems (MOS), outage management
systems (OMS), market participant interface systems, operational readiness activities, and reliability
standards.
