Global Contact

June 2008, Issue No. 2

Global Contact is KEMA’s worldwide quarterly magazine that is distributed among 15.000 of KEMA’s clients and relations. Global Contact is a broad platform. It includes news from around KEMA as well as articles providing insight into today’s critical energy and utility trends and topics, and the divers projects KEMA and her clients are working on.

This issue features:
‘YOU CAN NEVER RELAX’ - Climate change, renewable energy and ageing infrastructure are the main strategic topics on the agenda for European utilities, according to Dirk Fenske, the new Director of KEMA Consulting Europe. KEMA is well positioned to support these utilities.
A UTILITY’S VISION OF THE FUTURE TAKESLIFE - Duke Energy is one of the largest investor-owned utilities in North America. KEMA is currently consulting with Duke Energy on many aspects of its Utility of the Future initiative.
NEW APPLICATIONS FOR CLEARING BALANCE GROUP SETTLEMENT - Despite extensive efforts to standardize and speed up the market processes in the German electricity branch, settlement of Balance Groups was for years determined by different data formats and therefore resulted in extended settlement periods.
1100 KV HIGH POWER TEST - In the last week of February 2008 KEMA has performed its first real commercial 1100 kV tests.
WELL PROTECTED AGAINST LIGHTNING - It is no bigger than a house brick, but it performs a vitally important function: a surge protective device.  DEHN has their reliability tested and certified by KEMA.
HEALTH CHECK FOR TRANSFORMERS - Just as blood analyses can say a lot about a person’s health, so oil analyses can provide valuable information about the condition of a transformer. KEMA offers a range of different oil analysis.
ENERGETICANDRELIABLE - China's rapid economic growth has had an effect on the testing of high-voltage and short-circuit components. KEMA is looking for the best ways to respond to China's dynamism.
TRANSPARANCY IS THE NEW MAGIC WORD - What will the future of electricity networks look like and how can tele- and datacommunication contribute towards that future? With this question in mind, Endesa Network Factory approached the KEMA consultants.
