Closer cooperation with Spain and Portugal






KEMA is opening local offices in Madrid, Spain and Lisboa, Portugal. The focus of this local representations will be the power generation and transmission & distribution market in the Iberian Peninsula. The main services include business improvement programmes, reliability improvement of power generation assets and distribution networks, and the implementation of new
technologies and communication standards.

Spain’s and Portugal’s electricity generation and consumption have grown considerably in recent years. KEMA has a very broad range of independent services that are interesting for these two markets. There are already stable relationships with large power generating and distributing company in Spain, and EDP, by far the largest energy company in Portugal. To strengthen the relationship with these companies and other (potential) clients on the Iberian Peninsula, KEMA has decided to open two local offices with native speaking consultants. These consultants and specialists mainly serve T&D utilities, T&D equipment manufacturers and (independent) power producers.

High level services

Reliability improvement is one of the services KEMA will focus on. This type of projects usually is based upon actual problems in T&D networks or power plants. They can turn into major reliability improvement projects. KEMA has substantial technical expertise on these subject combined with project management capabilities.
Business improvement programs, another service that KEMA offers, are aimed at the optimization of the business process and utilization of capital goods. This multi-year projects are performed in close cooperation with the customer.

New technologies

Furthermore, KEMA is regarded as one of the technological front-end players in the electricity market. We can assist utility owners and equipment manufacturers in the choice and implementation of new technologies or new codes and standards. These services include online cable monitoring, smart metering and IEC 61850 protocol testing and implementing but also technology roadmaps or participation in innovation boards of customers.
