The need for PREGO The energy supply industry in the Netherlands is one of the most reliable in the world. Due to deregulation and legislation enforced by the regulator, the energy companies are now focusing primarily on short-term cost savings. This short-term focus will eventually conflict with medium and long-range goals such as system reliability, efficient grid management and environmental issues. Because of this concern, the Dutch Department of Economic Affairs established a research program concerning electricity-grid issues in 2002. This program is called PREGO. Research topics include: - technological developments such as distributed generation, power electronics and energy storage,
- future market developments and
- new legislation and the impact on electricity grid management.
The program is an ongoing effort by KEMA and ECN; the Dutch grid operators are actively involved in the selection and elaboration of the individual projects. Available information One of the goals of PREGO is to enhance the knowledge level within the Dutch electricity sector. This is why each project concludes with a public report, amongst other results. The publicly available reports of the finished projects are only available in the Dutch language. For information about operational projects you can contact the project leader as mentioned. General questions or requests for information about PREGO can be directed to: prego@kema.com
