Making intelligent decisions on the maintenance, replacement, upgrading, life extension and refurbishment of your overhead lines requires keen insight on the condition of your assets as well as effective tools and methodologies for assessing options and maximizing your investment. Questions to consider when looking to uprate, upgrade or extend the life of your overhead lines include:
what is the condition of my high voltage overhead line?
what is its present reliability and residual life?
is it feasible to extend the service life of my overhead line?
my network is congested - can my overhead line be uprated or upgraded?
what is the best maintenance method for my overhead line?
KEMA has many years’ experience in all aspects of high voltage overhead line design projects - from feasibility studies to design to commissioning management. In fact we have carried out the design, procurement and construction supervision of most of the 380 kV and 220 kV networks in the Netherlands. Condition and maintenance Based on this experience KEMA has developed tools and methods to assist the modern asset manager and provide answers to the above questions. KEMA has assisted utilities in setting up maintenance methods. Furthermore, KEMA has developed advanced tools to determine the condition of the different components of overhead lines.
The assessment method is based on modern international design standards and on taking samples and carrying out tests. The result of the method is quantitative data regarding the actual reliability and residual life of the overhead line. This information enables the asset manager to make intelligent decisions regarding maintenance, replacement, upgrading, life extension, refurbishment etc of his overhead line. Our projects include:
