HVDC and Power Electronics have found a wide range of utility applications through decades. The global demand for HVDC and power electronics application is growing continuously. Examples include HVDC interconnections, Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) and Custom Power Compensators.

High and medium voltage
High power electronics can be found in high voltage transmission systems for dynamic power flow regulation, network stability, wind farm interconnections, fast voltage regulation and reactive power compensation. 
In medium voltage networks power electronics are applied for Power Quality mitigation, grid reliability improvement, industrial rectifiers for railways and aluminum melters.
