KEMA has extensive knowledge and experience in load forecasting and analysis for regional, local and other defined areas. A recent project investigated two cases: Regional peak demand forecasting The regional peak load forecast and analysis sought to resolve a number of practical questions including:
Are there regional differences in the peak demand?
What are the most driving factors?
In which month will the peak occur, and on which day of the week?
Does the summer peak outdo the winter peak?
What is the relation or correlation between (measured or forecasted) temperature and the load?
Will the peak increase after consecutive hot days?
In addressing these questions, the regional load forecast includes investigating temperature influences and economic factors. Several models including the Kalman filter, time series analysis and regression models were ultilized to ensure the most comprehensive results. Local peak demand forecasting Forecasting the long-term local peak demand generally is difficult since the customers are usually unknown beforehand, while the type of loads and load patterns are also uncertain. However, KEMA developed an effective new forecasting tool that combines scenario analysis, probabilistic forecasts and load profiles that can help make reasonable load forecasts for a new local residential or industrial area.
