European legislation means liberalization of the market resulting in competition. These factors have a major influence on the railway industry. Products and processes have to meet increasingly stringent requirements. 

KEMA has participated for many years in the area of traction, offering many services including the notified body of KEMA Railway Transport Certification (KEMA RTC). KEMA RTC fulfils all mandatory and voluntary inspections requested by the railway section. This independent organization is a notified body within the scope of the European Guidelines 98/48/EC and 2001/16/EC for the interoperability of the Trans-European railway network.
