Water and energy recovery from flue gas
At the combustion of fossil fuels like gas, oil, coal and biomass large quantities of water are produced in the flue gases. The flue gas of a gas fired power plant contains approx. 8% and in the case of coal fired plants with FGD approx. 11% water. This water vapour in the flue gas is an attractive source for high quality water, like drinking water or even demineralized water. To recover a substantial part of this water in a simple and economical way could turn a power plant from a water consumer to a water supplier. Benefits
The application makes it possible to recover and purify water in one step. The cost price of the recovered water is competitive with water produced by other technologies like ion exchange resins and reverse osmosis. Besides the recovery of water there is an energy bonus as well. By recovering enough water from the flue gas one can minimize or even omit reheating the flue gas after the flue gas desulphurization process.
