NanoGLOWA, ECOSTILER, Water from flue gas, Maximum co-firing, Walker process, Small-scale combined heat and power in the Ukraine

NanoGLOWA
To fulfill the requirements beyond Kyoto, the ultimate way to reduce CO2 emissions from fossil fired power plants is by CO2 capture. The objective of this innovative project is to develop optimal nano-structured membranes for CO2 capture from power plants.

Water recovery from flue gas
At the combustion of fossil fuels large quantities of water are produced in the flue gases. This water vapour is an attractive source for high quality water, like drinking water or even de-mineralized water. KEMA has developed a process with new membrane material which is higly selective for water capture at flue gas temperatures.

ECOSTILER
Energy conservation, better insulation of houses, sustainable energy production, bioenergy. These are all ways of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases, such as CO2. These measures are often implemented, but they are rarely combined in an integrated approach. As manager of the ECOSTILER project (Energy efficient Community Stimulation by use and Integration of Local Energy Resources), KEMA is implementing such an integrated approach.

Greenhouses
Almost three quarters of the total greenhouse surface in Europe consists of plastic foil greenhouses. Especially Spain and Italy have a dominating influence on this large share.

Maximum co-firing
To reduce CO2 emissions, the Dutch government has set a target to generate more than 17 per cent of the total electricity production in 2020 from sustainable sources. This target, combined with new legislation with respect to waste disposal, is the driving force to increase electricity production from biomass and waste streams in Dutch electricity generation.
