Handbook for conditioning treatments for new power plants.

Goal:
To know which measures have to be taken during the design phase of a power plant to guarantee the water quality. This handbook gives you a description of conditioning treatments and appropriate (on-line) monitors for state-of-the-art plant designs.

Customer value:
-     at the design phase you know what it takes to guarantee the water quality
-     preventing extra costs due to not having big surprises during commissioning: preparation is better than curing
-     applicable for new power plant designs
-     to have a reference document.

Deliverables:
-     handbook due in December 2008.

Guarantying water quality through continuous measurement of key parameters.

Goal:
To know which parameters have to be continuously monitored to guarantee the process water/steam quality and an inventory of new developments of on-line monitors to measure theses parameters.

Customer value:
-        knowing which measurements are necessary to continuously guarantee the process water quality and therefore the whole process
-        less loss of water and steam
-        knowing how to conduct these measurements correctly
-        knowing which new market developments are available to conduct on-line monitors.

Deliverables:
-        report due in September 2008.

Validation of degassed cation conductivity measurement equipment.

Goal:
A new parameter to help guarantee the water quality in water/steam cycles is degassed cation (acid) conductivity. The aim of this project is to validate the commercially available monitors.

Customer value:
-        knowing which degassed cation conductivity monitors are suitable and reliable
-        being able to determine if there is CO2 ingress from air or decomposition of organic material
-        not having unnecessary delays during startup due to incorrect interpretations of high cation (acid) conductivity values.

Deliverables:
-        report due in December 2008.

Best Available Technology for make-up water treatment.

Goal:
To be up to date with the best available (new) technologies (BAT) for make-up water treatment.

Customer value:
-        being informed: handy overview of what is BAT
-        having a reference book
-        understanding (financial) alternatives for water reuse and water make-up.

Deliverables:
-        BAT report due in December 2008
-        your participation in this project is required by a questionnaire.

TOC reduction by UV

Goal:
To determine the effectiveness of UV light on the removal of TOC in a dematerialized water treatment plant based on ion exchange resins.

Customer value:
-        knowing the effectiveness of UV light for TOC removal
-        effect on formed radicals on resins
-        able to make a proper a discussion on how to prepare TOC free water.

Deliverables:
-        report due in December 2008.

Reducing water use in power plants.

Goal:
To conduct an on-site inventory of all water streams inside a power or (chemical) processing plant which will provide insight and opportunities for reducing water use.

Customer value:
-        actual knowledge of the quality and quantity of water within your plant
-        understanding the (financial) benefits and alternatives for water reuse
-        what others have done to save and re-use water (benchmarking)
-        savings on expensive treatment of water of lesser quality
-        savings on water use.

Deliverables:
