Inspections, audits and failure analysis

QA/QC, inspections, failure analysis, audits

Inspections and quality control

Installations are becoming increasingly complex. Problems can be prevented by means of adequate quality control. It is advisable to keep a close check on quality during manufacture, repairs or construction work. KEMA has more than 25 years of experience in technical inspection of boilers, steam and gas turbines, rotating equipment, wind turbines, pipeline systems and other industrial installations. Throughout the years the KEMA inspectors have gained extensive know-how on potential bottlenecks in design and production and repair processes. It is possible to anticipate such bottlenecks by means of an adequate inspection program.
Quality control focuses on mechanical engineering as well as on civil and electrical engineering aspects of installations. If necessary, the inspectors can request support from other KEMA disciplines, such as materials science, chemistry and process engineering.

Tank inspections

Risk analysis as a basis for smart tank inspection.

The internal inspection of storage tanks is an expensive and time-consuming business. However, following the introduction of more modern regulations to supersede the aging and prescriptive rules that used to govern tank inspection, there is now more scope for using smart methods and techniques. As a result, the chemicals firm Cindu has been able to dramatically cut costs by combining risk analysis, inspection planning, and customized implementation and consultancy.

Inspections of civil structures

The quality of a concrete structure is vitally important. For one thing, the renovation or replacement of buildings and installations can be very costly. What´s more, concrete structures must meet exacting safety requirements. KEMA has many years’ experience specializing in the inspection, condition monitoring and certification of engineering structures.

Client-specific audits

Every organization wants limited risks with respect to budget, delivery time, quality and maintenance costs. Experience has taught us that a certified system does not guarantee a good product.
We can help you by performing independent inspections and preventive audits.

Failure analysis & diagnostics

It never rains but it pours. This old saying certainly applies to failure in complex industrial systems. It is therefore always important to find answers to a number of important questions: What is the cause of the failure? Is subsequent failure likely to occur and if so, how can it be prevented? And are we dealing with an incident or is there a structural defect, or an unanticipated omission in daily operation?
KEMA's failure analysis experts are not alone in facing these questions. They use advanced equipment and are supported by staff from well-equipped laboratories. Through preliminary consultation with experts in other disciplines on previously occurring failure, the experts also have access to information from different fields, such as electrical and mechanical engineering, chemistry and physics.
KEMA has received a quality accreditation for quality control services, based upon all criteria from EN 54004, ISO Guide 39 and relevant criteria from ISO 9001/2.
