Quality of life, future quality Emission trading The government aims to have a system for trading NOx and CO2 emissions up and running by 2005. The system is intended to facilitate cost-effective cuts in the amount of NOx and CO2 released into the atmosphere by Dutch industry and to ensure that the nation’s emission reduction targets are met. KEMA has developed a service model for supporting clients as they move towards emission trading and for implementing the necessary measures and systems. NOx reduction services NOx emissions regulations are becoming increasingly stringent, and regulatory and legislative authorities continue to examine and promulgate changes in the rules. Electric power generators and other heavy industries must leverage significant capital investments and strategic planning to ensure compliance and to avoid costly consequences for NOx reduction measures. Environmental impact statements, license applications and studies An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) plays a crucial role in many license procedures for process and production installations. It supports the decision-making process on activities that may have important environmental consequences. KEMA has wide experience in drawing up EIS's in the fields of heat and power generation, biomass (co-)combustion and waste treatment, reuse of residual materials, other industrial processes and policy plans. European environmental directive: the IPPC The European Directive 96/61/EC concerning integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC), poses a number of requirements to the licensing of (large) industrial, energy and waste processing installations. The application of IPPC in licenses is based largely on so-called BAT reference documents (BREF’s). KEMA is aware of the large (financial) interest for a short lead time of license procedures and making it IPPC-proof assuring a timely completion.
Emission measurements and calibrations Emission trading, accounting, monitoring and evaluating the impact of implemented measures have to be proven in practice. Measured data quite often forms the foundation of complex calculations and reports. KEMA's department for environmental measurements is accredited by the Dutch Council for Accreditation as a test laboratory for performing environmental measurements on location, working according to NEN-EN-ISO/IEC 17025 guidelines. A great variety of measuring equipment is applied for the execution of environmental measurements (emission, ambient air, workplace air and health and safety measurements).
Environmental performance evaluation Society (government, public, shareholders, financial institutions) is looking to the environmental performance of your company. This requires adequate methodologies for generating and evaluating the environmental figures. Figures about emissions to air, water and soil; and figures about waste. Not just generated by physical measuring but also by combination, aggregation and validation to present the figures in your annual report in a reliable way. For more information please contact us.
