Emission measurements and monitoring

Measurements, monitoring, trade and NOx reduction

Emission measurements

Field data are required for emission trading, bookkeeping, monitoring and evaluating the effect of implemented measures. The measurements we collect often form the basis of complex calculations and reports. KEMA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for the performance of emission measurements on location, in line with the NEN-EN-ISO/IEC 17025 guidelines. We have at our disposal an impressive range of instruments for measuring environmental variables, such as emissions, atmospheric concentrations, workplace concentrations and other health and safety parameters.

Emission trading

NOx and CO2 trading were introduced by the government in 2005. The aim of the trading system is to facilitate the cost-effective reduction of emissions by the business community, with a view to ensuring that national emission targets are met. A business that emits NOx or CO2 has the choice of buying emission rights or acting to bring the amounts it releases within its allowance, thus creating scope to sell on surplus rights. Thus, a strategic decision has to be made on the basis of careful consideration, backed up by factual data. KEMA has designed a model to help its clients enter the emission trading ring and implement the necessary measures and systems.

NOx reduction advice

NOx emission regulations are being tightened all the time, as regulatory and legislative bodies continue to review and update the rules. Electricity production companies and other heavy industrial concerns are consequently obliged to make major capital investments and develop strategic plans in order to ensure compliance and avoid the expensive consequences of NOx reduction measures.
