Renewable and distributed energy interconnection

Bridging emerging technologies of the future grid

Utility managers face complex technical, capital, and workforce challenges in planning, designing and maintaining T&D and generation assets. Power system managers must address aging infrastructure and plan upgrades and capital investments with a constant eye on complying with new stringent reliability standards. And with a growing array of diverse distributed and renewable generation, they also are increasingly addressing emerging interconnection and monitoring issues.

KEMA provides T&D system analysis, design, and planning studies that help clients plan for and design interconnection strategies for new and emerging renewable and distributed generation technologies and energy storage systems. Our network studies, design and optimization services help utilities understand and leverage reliable information on current network capabilities, investment decisions, integrating new and existing components, and future system challenges.

The AES Corporation (AES) recently engaged KEMA to validate and test the use of a new battery storage technology for electric utility system applications. KEMA designed a testing program and assisted AES in conducting testing on the prototype system. The results of the test showed that the prototype unit successfully demonstrated the potential of using the device for utility applications.
